This kept us busy for a good half an hour, and it was a fun way to spend time together. Despite our best efforts, there was no fern in sight! We headed to the “forest” behind our house, which is really a collection of trees that separates our neighborhood from the one behind it. While my toddler grabbed at my legs so I would carry her, the four older kids raced toward the backyard and found a few things they knew they had seen before. They got right to work finding the easy things… like the tree, sun, and clouds – all things we could see from our front walk. Except me, because my Three took so long to get his sandals on.) (Okay, maybe they weren’t all excited, but no one was complaining. When the kids saw the nature hunts, all of them were excited to get started. So I cancelled after school cleaning and piano practice. We needed to take advantage of this beautiful weather, and I needed to haul my very pregnant self outside and get some fresh air.

It’s rare that I take the time to do this kind of activity with the kids. Before I know it my husband is coming home to play with the kids while I get supper ready. There are snacks, homework, after school cleaning jobs, and piano practice for my oldest. So when we had a rare 70 degree day in October, I thought we should make the most of it and pull out this nature scavenger hunt.Īfter we pick up the big kids from our church’s parochial school at 3:15, we have a lot to do before supper.
